Are you working toward a goal, but find yourself getting frustrated because of a lack of progress? Have you had a difficult time determining what is wrong?
It Takes Time
We are living in a society of instant gratification. The internet allows us to access information immediately. Mobile phones make us available almost anywhere and at almost any time. Instant Messaging is just that, instant. Even shipping has become more expedited, no one wants to wait more than a few days for a shipment to arrive.
Our expectations have changed. We become impatient when something takes too long and we are not making progress as quickly as we want. We often start activities as part of a routine toward meeting our goals, and if after a few days we don’t see results, we determine that it’s not working. At that point we think we need to make a change, or worse, we completely give up.
Consistency Is Key
Results take consistent action. When we get impatient and change directions or activities before we give them a chance to work, we are almost putting ourselves back at the beginning. While it’s not completely at the beginning, it’s not that far off.
Like many others I had to be reminded that consistency is key; I wasted a few months changing directions and trying to find what worked. Lucky for me I came across an article that talked about consistency and duration, and it pointed out to me mistakes I was making. That article was a game changer for me.
Here Are My Examples As Proof That Consistency Is Key
I wanted to build a following on FB, so I set up a business page. Immediately after establishing my page I began making 3-5 posts every single day. I continued this for a couple of weeks, but I wasn’t getting very much interaction on my posts, so I stopped. I may have made a post occasionally, but nothing consistent. After reading the article I committed to myself that for at least 90 days I would make 3-5 FB posts every single day. And guess what, after a couple of weeks of consistently posting, I started getting engagement.
Luckily I had read the article before I launched my website and started blogging, because my first several blogs didn’t get any engagement. I have stayed with it though, because I saw through my FB posting experience that consistency is key. I committed to myself that I would publish 3 blogs every week, and that’s what I have done every week since I launched my site. And while I am only a little over a month into this routine, I am starting to see increased engagement on my blogs.
My most recent example is with FB Lives. I started doing FB Lives a little over a week ago and I committed to doing a FB Live everyday. My first FB lives weren’t very good, and I don’t think anyone tuned in. Even my replays had little to no views. But I did not give up and I have continued to do FB Lives daily, and similar to my blogs, my FB Lives are starting to get more views, comments and likes.
Whether it’s building a business or making progress toward another goal, it is a fact that consistency is the key to success. You can’t give up and you have to give the activity time to produce results.
