Do you reflect on your goals and your actions to determine what seems to be working for you, and what may not be working, or in other words, if you have goal alignment? I recently took some time to think about this for myself and I realized it had been a while since I went through the exercise, so I took a moment to ask myself a few questions. “What has been working for me? What goals am I consistently accomplishing, and which do I seem to be missing? How is my progress toward what I want to accomplish in terms of my vision? And are my expectations in line with what I can do and what I want to do?” This is an important exercise because you need to measure your progress and make sure that you are on the right path, focused on the right things and are in complete goal alignment.
Today Is A Good Day To Start
Today could be the start of your next epic journey, epic advancement, epic success, or whatever you want to call it. Today could be the first day of you progressing toward your next great thing. Spend some time thinking about what you have been doing, where you are in terms of your goals, and determine if you still have goal alignment. It’s possible that you will realize that your goals or vision have changed and you haven’t appropriately accounted for that in your daily or weekly goals and activities.
Here Is My Approach To Checking My Goal Alignment
I first spend a little time reviewing my vision to determine if I have added anything new; you may be surprised to find that on occasion you are introduced to something that causes you to add elements to your vision, it does happen. After I review my vision I look at my accomplishments over the past 30, 60, 90 days. I analyze my success and achievements in relation to how long it took me to reach those accomplishments. This is a very important part of the exercise because this is how you will know if your daily and weekly goals and actions are in alignment with your longer term goals and vision. If you are taking longer to achieve certain accomplishments you may need to consider increasing your activity. Or, you may determine that you are not able to increase your activity and you must change your expectations.
I generally set my goals on Sunday evening; therefore, this exercise is something I do on Sunday morning. Just to clarify, I only do this about every 90 days, or if I actively and knowingly add something to my vision or goals.
Do You Know If You Are In Goal Alignment?
If you haven’t taken time to go through this type of exercise within the past 90 days, it may be worth considering this. Take some time to think about your ambitions, your vision, and your goals. Look at what actions you’ve been taking, look at the results that you’ve gotten and figure out if you need to make any adjustments. If you go through this and find that you are in complete goal alignment, fantastic. If you find that you need to make some tweaks, determine what those changes are and implement them.
One thing that I think is important to mention is that if you have only been doing whatever it is you’re doing for a few weeks, or less than 90 days, then you probably shouldn’t make any adjustments yet because you haven’t given your activities time to produce results.
Continue believing in yourself and your dreams and goals; you can accomplish that which you desire!
