Do you have a strong vision? Have you been tested to the point that your vision really matters? Specifically I’m talking about whatever it is you’re working for, and when I say working for, it could be working toward a new role in your career, inventing a new product, establishing a new business or growing an existing business.
When you start out on a new venture or journey you are often told to create a dream board or a vision board that captures the essence of your ‘why’. Additionally you are told to post it somewhere that you will see it everyday – on your mirror, on your fridge, or anywhere that will keep it at top of mind. The question is, how important is it to do this?
How Important Is It To Have A Strong Vision?
For those of you that have been following me for a while you know that I started on a new journey at the beginning of this year. It was a gradual start, and I spent a lot of time in the beginning focused on personal development, which has been a fantastic growth experience. And then over the last few months I have been more focused on building a business and establishing my own company. I’ve invested time in creating content, networking and meeting new people, and building relationships. And something interesting happened over the past few weeks – I suddenly ‘got it’, I had one of those a-ha moments.
I fully understand now what it means when they say you must have a vision that holds you. You must have a reason that is so strong and so important to you that it’s going to keep you going, it’s going to remind you why you’re doing what you’re doing. The reason I know this is because for the last few weeks I have been struggling, and it’s partially because I feel like I’ve done a lot. I have seen some growth and I am getting some of the results I expected, but it seems slow and it is taking a long time. Honestly, there have been times when I have thought that it would just be easier to not do this anymore. It would just be easier to come home at night after a long day and just chill out and not worry about anything else.
The Moment It Made Sense To Me
After struggling with the thoughts of what was easy vs what I truly wanted to accomplish, I turned my focus on the whole reason I started this journey. The reason I started this journey was to create freedom. I want to have the freedom to create my own schedule, determine how I will spend my day, and be able to travel and enjoy life. As I thought about these things that I want, I realized that I can’t have them if I don’t change what I am currently doing.
I know it’s hard for anyone that is trying to make a change; it is a tough journey, but you have to keep going if you want to accomplish your goal. And during those tough times you have to remember your vision and the reason that you’re doing what you’re doing. Having that strong vision is what will get you through the challenging times.
Anything worth accomplishing is going to be tough and is going to require you to refocus on your vision. I am certain that I will go through periods of time when I have to be reminded of my vision. If you are going through a challenging time, or just needed a little encouragement, I hope this helped encourage you and motivate you to keep working toward your goal.
